EstateCanvas vs. Willful
Willful covers ten provinces and has years of track record. We are $114 cheaper and let you read the whole will before paying.
All claims about Willful are taken from their own public pages, checked on August 4, 2026. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
The honest bottom line
If you live outside Ontario, British Columbia or Alberta, Willful is the obvious pick — we simply do not serve your province yet. If you do live in one of our three provinces, the comparison comes down to two things: you will pay $15 with us instead of $129, and you will read your finished will before you are asked for a card. What you give up is Willful's longer track record and their will-registry access.
Where Willful wins
Yes, this section is on our website. A comparison that pretends the other side has nothing is not a comparison.
They cover ten provinces; we cover three
Willful serves Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI and Quebec. EstateCanvas currently supports Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta only. If you live anywhere else, this comparison is academic.
Longer track record and law-society recognition
Willful has been operating since 2017, publishes a roster of estate lawyers by province, and has been through the Law Society of Ontario's innovation sandbox. We are newer and do not yet have an equivalent public lawyer-review programme.
Will registry access is bundled
Willful includes access to will registries, which they value at $40, so your executor can locate your will after your death. We do not offer registry registration yet.
A published refund policy
Willful advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Because we do not charge until you approve your will, we have no equivalent refund window — but if a guarantee matters to how you buy, that is a real difference.
Where EstateCanvas wins
$15 versus $129
Our will is $29, and $15 until October 31, 2026. Willful's entry plan is $129 as of August 2026. For a single simple will in one of our three provinces, that is the largest single difference between us.
You read the will before you pay
Willful asks for payment before your documents are generated. We generate the complete will first, let you read every clause, and only ask for payment when you tell us it is right.
A living estate record, not just a document
Beyond the will, EstateCanvas keeps a running record of your estate: assets and their fair market values, liabilities, uploaded supporting documents attached to the things they relate to, and contacts with the roles they play. Willful includes an asset list on its higher plans; ours is a maintained ledger you keep using.
Shared spaces, including a lawyer role
You can invite people into your estate plan with a specific role — owner, admin, lawyer or viewer. If your lawyer or accountant needs to see the plan, they get their own access rather than a forwarded PDF.
Updates are free permanently, on every plan
Both of us offer free updates, so this is close to a tie — but ours are free on the only plan we sell, with no tier to upgrade to first.
