Privacy policy
Last updated August 4, 2026
Estate planning data is among the most personal data there is. This policy says what we collect, why, who can see it, and how you get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to survive a deposition.
What we collect
Account data: your name and email, handled through our authentication provider (Clerk). We never see or store your password.
Estate data: what you enter in the questionnaire and the estate record — family details, assets, liabilities, contacts, wishes — and the documents you upload or we generate. This exists solely to provide the Service.
Payment data: processed by our payment provider; we do not store card numbers.
Technical data: the logs any web service keeps (IP, browser, timestamps) for security and debugging. The marketing site sets no advertising trackers.
What we do with it
Provide the Service, generate your documents, remind you about reviews you asked for, answer your support requests, and keep the Service secure. We do not sell personal data, share it with advertisers, or use your estate data to train models.
Who can see it
You, and the people you explicitly invite into a space — each limited by the role you give them. Executor shares are read-only. Our staff access production data only when needed to fix a problem you have raised. Infrastructure providers (hosting, storage, authentication, payments) process data on our instructions under their own security obligations.
Where it lives and how long
Data is stored on Canadian and North American cloud infrastructure, encrypted at rest and in transit. We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, estate data is deleted from production systems within 30 days and from backups on their rotation schedule; minimal transaction records are retained as tax law requires.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA and provincial privacy law you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Emailsupport@estatecanvas.ca and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unsatisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will notify account holders by email and update the date above.
